Washington DC...Day 1

We got in last night and checked in and were excited to wake up and go out to see the city.  This morning first we headed down for breakfast.  I think one of Samantha's favorite things to do in a hotel is order her special omelets.  Once we were done with breakfast it was time to bundle up and get ready to head outside.  We knew it was going to be cold and there was a good chance of snow.  We had looked at all of the things to do and Samantha chose the White House as the first thing she wanted to see.  The White House is only a couple blocks aways so off we went.  Then after seeing the White House, we headed to the White House Welcome Center.  In the center we asked Samantha what the first three things she would do if she were President.  She thought for a second and then she said first I would go check out my room, then I would go check out my office and third I would make sure there were no wars.  I absolutely love that kid.  Samantha had been learning about the 16th President in school so she was super excited about seeing the Lincoln Memorial.  On the way to see it we came across the Vietnam War Memorial which we spent some time explaining what the war was and why the wall was there.  We then took in the Washington Monument prior to heading up to the Lincoln Memorial.  Samantha was so proud she got to see it and could not wait to go back to school and tell everyone she saw it.  It was getting to be lunch time so we jumped on the metro to head to where some restaurants were.  We knew the Panthers were playing so we choose Black Fin since we knew they would have several TVs for us to watch the game.  By this time it was pouring snow; which Samantha could not believe and got super excited about.  The Panthers had a fabulous first half and luckily it was good enough to allow them to win the game.  We then took the Metro to go visit the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum.  After that it was time for dinner and Samantha wanted pizza so mommy found us Pi which had some fabulous pizza.  Samantha had noticed a lot of homeless people while we were walking around today and every now and then would ask a question about it; especially with it snowing and cold today.  At dinner she asked what do homeless people eat; to which we delicately explained.  We got done eating and she asked if we could have a box to take the pizza to a homeless person.  On the walk home she did just that which I am sure made his day a little better and truly made our day.  It was then time to head back to the room and get on swim suit so that she could get in a quick swim prior to calling it a night.  Supposed to be extremely cold tomorrow.
