Linville Caverns & Sledding!!!

Over the night there were winter conditions; it would snow; it would sleet; it would snow a little more.  After going down and eating breakfast I went outside to heat up the car and defrost the windows prior to us heading out.  The plan was for us to head to Linville Caverns; the directions said to jump on the parkway which was covered in ice so after making it about 3 miles into the parkway we decided to turn around and go with plan b but then we saw 221 South which is the road that the Caverns were on so we decided to try that and see if it would get us to the Caverns.  What a beautiful drive; we saw waterfalls right off the road; the mountains were beautiful....just an all around great (slow) drive.  We were about 5 miles from the Caverns when we started thinking what are we going to eat for lunch.  Luckily we came up on Famous Louise's Rock House Restaurant...that's my grandma's name and I don't know anyone that cook like her so it was going to be good enough for us.  To be honest had it been Crappy Bill's we were going to stop and eat.  The meal turned out great and Samantha had alot of fun with the waiters there (they absolutely loved her light up boots).  It was now time to go to the cave which Samantha was very excited about until she heard the little girl in front of us mention bats to which she gave me the "huh" look.  I explained they were friendly bats to which she gave the "is there such a thing" look.  The cavern were very cool and we were glad we made the trip.  We then said goodbye and headed back to blowing rock and figured we would get back on the parkway now that it had warmed up a little.  We are driving down the parkway and we get to a sign that says parkway is closed and detour (seems the roads were bad on the parkway; probably a good thing we stopped and turned around earlier in the day).  We end up coming out in banner elk prior to realizing where we are and there is a good amount of snow all over the ground.  We decide to turn towards Banner Elk and see if we can find a good sled hill; which we found almost immediately.  We had bought Samantha's sled about 2 years ago and the only thing she has been able to do is bring it in our living room and sit in it and watch tv.  She did not know we had brought it and was so excited when I pulled it out of the back of the truck.  Samantha absolutely loved sledding!!!  We headed to the hotel to warm up prior to going to dinner.  For dinner we decided to go get pizza at Mellow Mushroom and as we park Samantha sees a First Citizens Bank and goes look dad there is my bank.  As we came out Samantha said uh guys it is too cold to go shopping we should go back to the hotel and watch a movie...Mommy & Daddy agreed so that is what we did.
